The Expendables

“The Expendables” is an action movie that was created by the action star Sylvester Stallone, the movies cast is packed full of famous action movie stars and there’s nothing to it but sheer entertainment for every action movie fan out there. If you love action movies, come see this box office movie ASAP!
Hmmnn…but then again, it’s not a perfect film. This upcoming movie demands that you set aside some of your reservations about quality and just accept it as it is because it certainly has some faults.
The film is obviously held back by its low budget and there’s way too much CGI blood. The characters are not well defined and the acting is so-so in many cases. However, Stallone, the master of gore and violence, is so good at putting together action that it makes the movie worth seeing. And then there’s the movies cast of Austin, Li, Lundgren, Crews, Willis, Schwarzenegger, Rourke, Couture and Statham that….need I say more?
So it was at first worrisome that perhaps the only good thing about “The Expendables” was its cast. But no worries. This movie would have been just fine with a bunch of unknown actors. It turns out that the fabulous cast doesn’t affect “The Expendables” as much as one might think, although it’s certainly a thrill to see them all in one movie.
The script revolves around a bunch of mercenary soldiers who go to South America to overthrow a dictator. It’s not a strong script but, hey, this is an action movie. The script allows for plenty of action by our action “heroes” and that’s what counts. They get the bad guys with explosions and stabbings and all sorts of other violence.
Unfortunately, it takes a long time to get to the meat of the movie, the action scenes, and there’s way too much CGI blood and flames. “The Expendables” tends to be reminiscent of a movie on the Sci-Fi channel and this is not a good thing.
But if you’re into enormous amounts of blood, gore, shooting, slashing, grenades, severed limbs and just plain old violence, this is the show for you! By the end of the movie you’ll feel knee deep in blood and body parts. And that cast alone is worth the wait on line in the heat of summer.
Unfortunately for Stallone, the studio that’s doing most of the financing for the Expendables, Nu Image, is known chiefly for its low budget movies that usually never even make the theaters – they just go straight to video stores. “The Expendables” is not going to do anything to give Nu Image a new image.
If you’re a big fan of blood, violence and action, slashed throats, body parts and death in all its bloodiest forms, get yourself to your local theater now to see Sylvester Stallone’s “ project on the new movies list today: “The Expendables”!

Movie Ratings and Reviews - The Switch

This upcoming movie manages to overcome an almost impossible plot to become a bright, romantic comedy. Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman shine in their lead roles and Jeff Goldblum and Juliette Lewis add another layer of glitz as they play the best friends. However, if the draw of the star’s names is not enough, Miramax is going to have a hard time with box office grosses, even if the movies reviews are great.
This has been a year of comedies based on, oddly enough, artificial insemination. Of all of them, including “The Back-Up Plan” and “The Are All Right”, “Switch” has the most implausible plot.
The plot is this: Bateman, who plays Wall Street Exec, Wally, has been hopelessly in love with Kassie (Aniston’s character) for years. She sees him as “just a friend” so he can’t admit that he loves her to himself or to anyone else. When Kassie decides to find a sperm donor and get pregnant, Wally volunteers. But Kassie wants to pick the perfect sperm donor and turns Wally down.
Okay, now comes the tricky part. The audience is asked to believe that Wally manages to get so drunk on booze and pills that he substitutes his own sperm for the sperm of Roland, the chosen donor. Patrick Wilson is splendid as Roland.
Anyway, back to the story: Kassie’s best friend Debbie, has an insemination party, and this is where Wally pulls off his little substitution. To make things even better, he is so drunk that he can’t remember that he did it.
Fast forward seven years. Kassie has returned to NYC with her son, Sebastian, who is played by Thomas Robinson. Sebastian is neurotic and sees the dark side of everything. As a matter of fact, he’s an awful lot like his “Uncle Wally.” And “Uncle Wally” is starting to remember things.
Believe it or not, this film has sentimental and touching moments between Wally and Sebastian and great comedic moments as well.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of romance in this romance movie. Mostly Wally is neurotic and complaining so scenes between Bateman and Aniston are not all hearts and flowers.
Screenwriter Alan Loeb wrote the script from a short story by the author Jeffrey Eugenides, famous for “The Virgin Suicides” and “Middlesex.” Directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck do a better job in the second half of the film than in the first which is a little off-stride. Wally and Kassie also do better in the second half of the film as Wally’s fondness for Sebastian appeals to the mother in Kassie.
This new movie release is rated PG-13 and runs for 101 minutes.
“The Switch”, a movie on the new movies list, is sure to entertain – especially fans of Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston.

“Eat Pray Love”, a film on this summer’s New Movies List, stars Julia Robertson in a role all about the discovery of self through getting away from one’s everyday life. In this case, Robertson’s life is that of a very well respected New York writer who is having romance problems. She feels inwardly empty and can’t seem to love the men that love her. So she starts a worldwide journey to find fulfillment, something she tells everyone she meets. The funny thing is that this New Movie Release never gets out of its own comfort zone.
