How to find HMRC UK Tax Overpayments
By krenaul @ 3:50 PM :: 16 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Employment

HMRC UK tax overpayments can happen for a variety of reasons. Simple human error can be part of the problem but sometimes it is due to being given the wrong information. Many people are not aware that overpayments can be requested for up to six years previous. Some people will find that this could potentially provide them a nice sum of money.

Many people rely on their employer to deduct the correct amount of tax from their wages. This will work well for most people who work one continuous job all year but not everyone. People who work more than one job or who work a series of jobs tend to be the ones who have a miscalculation of some kind. This may cause more than the required amount of money to be taken out of their pay.

While there is a number issued each year that is used as a code for tax payments, some people mistakenly use an incorrect number or an old one that was only good for a previous year. This can cause the amount to be applied incorrectly and result in too much having been paid in for a specific year.

Some people may be more prone to wrong amounts being deducted. Students and construction workers are many times people who pay too much money into the system. What many people don’t realize is that workers who come to the UK from other countries are usually able to get a refund. Because these people are not from the UK and not familiar with the tax code, they may not realize this at all.

People may want to work with a registered tax agency to recoup their funds. These companies have websites that make it easy for people to get more information. They provide information about circumstances that may contribute to overpayment. They will have different tables so people can see if they fit into a specific category such as married, elderly, blind or other types that may have a bearing on the amount of money they are supposed to pay into the system. From there, people can use a calculator form on the site to see if they might be due money. If they suspect that they are due money, they can work with the agency to get it back.

These companies will take the information that their clients give them to apply for a refund. Because they perform this service often, they have a more or less streamlined process to get HMRC UK tax overpayments.
